Mariona Espaulella is a Geriatrician in the unit of hospitalization at home / PADES  in the Hospital Universitari de la Santa Creu de Vic.

MD. Espaulella is currently working in the thesis project on the doctoral program of comprehensive care and health services at UVic-UCC. The project is focus on the study of the relationship between fragility and tissue regeneration.

Mariona Espaulella has the degree in medicine from the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona in 2010 and  is specialist in geriatrics by the Ministerio de sanidad y ciencias in 2015.

Mariona Espaulella Ferrer has received the Osona Health Award

Mariona Espaulella Ferrer has received the Osona Health Award (Premis sanitat d'Osona) for her article, "Health Care Model for People Living in Nursing Homes Based on Integrated Care." The award recognizes her contribution to improving care for elderly residents through a collaborative health care model. The awarded article demonstrates the benefits of integrating primary care teams with a specialized geriatric team to enhance the health outcomes of nursing home residents. Espaulella's research shows that this approach leads to more personalized care, faster responses to health needs, and improved overall well-being for institutionalized individuals.

Mariona Espaulella Ferrer, new doctor at UVic-UCC

On February 12, 2024, Mariona Espaulella Ferrer, a specialist in geriatrics and the current coordinator of medic services at Hospital de Campdevànol (Girona), successfully defended her doctoral thesis titled “Relationship between frailty and aging with health outcomes.” The research findings affirm that assessing the degree of frailty allows for the comprehensive characterization of older adults’ overall health status and enables personalized interventions.
