Hip fractures among older adults are prevalent and often lead to significant functional loss, a decline in quality of life, increased resource utilization at discharge, and higher mortality rates. Accurate risk stratification tools are crucial for informing surgical decisions, optimizing perioperative management, and enhancing patient outcomes. One widely used prognostic tool is the Nottingham Hip Fracture Score (NHFS). This study is the first to validate the predictive ability of the NHFS for 12-month mortality following a femur fracture outside the United Kingdom, specifically within the Spanish population.

We have validated a prognostic tool in our geriatric population with femur fractureswhich has also demonstrated excellent reliability and feasibility The validation of this prognostic tool is anticipated to greatly influence routine clinical practice by determining, upon admission, the risk of complications and mortality in patients with femur fractures. This will help optimize the clinical condition of patients before surgery and better align the expectations of the patient, their family, and the therapeutic team regarding prognostic outcomes.
