She is Pharmacist by the University of Salamanca and Specialist in Clinical Chemestry by the Virgen del Rocío University Hospital (HUVR) of Seville where she was recognized as the excellent resident of her promotion (2015-2019).

Since 2016 she has also been a research scientist at the Neurocritical Pathologies Research Group of the Biomedicine Institute of Seville (IBiS), where she started her PhD. In 2019, she did an internship as a co-researcher at the Neurovascular Diseases Research Group of the Vall d’Hebron Institute of Research (VHIR) in Barcelona.

In 2020, she obtained a Cum Laude PhD in Molecular Biology, Biomedicine and Medical Research from the University of Seville. Her doctoral research was related to Neuroscience, focusing mainly on identifying new biomarkers of neuronal injury in neurocritical pathologies such as traumatic brain injury (TBI) and stroke.

Since January 2024, she is also a member of the Neurochemistry and Neurological Diseases Commission of the Spanish Society of Laboratory Medicine (SEQC).

Currently, she is working as Specialist at the Diagnostic Biomedic Department in Althaia (Manresa).

Gemma Fuster has just published a research article in collaboration with Hospital de Sant Pau and Hospital Clínic where the researchers analyse the predictive capacity for local disease control of the transcriptional expression of the neogenin-1 (NEO1) gene in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). We performed a retrospective neogenin-1 (NEO1) transcriptional study on tumour biopsies from 107 surgically treated HNSCC patients.
