Joan Enric Torra is Clinical Consultant in skin integrity and Patient safety, and the founder and Managing Director of SAPIENS Ferides/as-Wounds Consultants, the first comprehensive consultancy on wounds in Spain and Latin America. Person in charge of the Blog PIEL SEGURA (SAFE SKIN). He also collaborates with the Doctoral Programme in Health Sciences at the University of Lleida.
He got a Nursing Diploma in the University of Barcelona (Bsc Nurs) in 1982. He got a master degree in wound care (Máster sobre Investigación y Gestión del Cuidado de las Heridas) of the University of Cantabria (MSc Nurs) in 2012 and concluded his PhD at the University of Alicante (February 2016). He has been working as primary health care nurse in several primary health care centers, as well as in the Health Department of the Government of Catalonia as health planning technician were he supported the reform of the primary health care model and implemented several home care programmes. He created and was in charge of the “Consorci Sanitari de Terrassa’s Interdisciplinary Chronic Wounds Unit” (a catalan national health service trust in Terrassa, Barcelona) (1997-2003) and between December 2003 and May 2018 he has worked in the Wound Healing Division of Smith & Nephew performing clinical support, training and research activities in Spain, Portugal and latinoamerica. His interests in wound care research and education are wide-ranging including: chronic wounds epidemiology and costs, pressure ulcers prevention and treatment, leg ulcers, complex wounds, pediatric wounds, negative pressure therapy, clinical practice guidelines assessment, Epidermolisis Bullosa, advanced skin care, incontinence associated dermatitis, (IAD), lymphedema, safety patient issues related to wound care, health economics and efficacy and efficiency in wound care and Surgical Site Infection epidemiology and prevention. He has also researched in pressure reduction properties of hydrocelular dressings as well as in experimental and basic research in wound care and in the development of new products and innovations as well as new organizational frameworks for wound care. He was honoured in 1996 with the 6th Spanish National Award of Nursing Research from the Spanish Nurses Council for a research about the epidemiology and cost of pressure ulcers in the primary health care network of the Consorci Sanitari de Terrassa.
He is currently, member of the steering Committee of the GNEAUPP (Spanish Pressure Ulcers and Chronic Wounds Advisory Panel) , Trustee of the EPUAP (European Pressure Ulcer advisory Panel), memebre of the board of the Europena Wound Management Association (EWMA), member of the National Pressure Injury Advisory Panel (NPIAP), researcher of the Research Group on Tissue Repair and Regeneration (TR2Lab), Institut de Recerca i Innovació en Ciències de la Vida i de la Salut a la Catalunya Central (IrisCC) (2021 SGR 00816). Researcher at the Cátedra de Heridas GNEAUPP-Fundación Sergio Juan Jordán, collaborator of the 4DHealth Innovation and Simulation Center and consultant advisor of the Lindasy Leg Club Foundation (UK). He is currently co-director of 8 doctoral theses at the Universities of Lleida, Jaén and Autónoma de Barcelona related to different aspects of wound care being carried out by nurses or physiotherapists. Some of his research has received grants from the Spanish Ministry of Health (Instituto Carlos III) and the Col.elgi d’Infermeria de Barcelona. He has been vice president of the GNEAUPP (1997-2003)and member of the boards of the European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (1998-2003) and the European Wound Management Association (1999-2003)
He teaches on the postgraduate courses in chronic wounds of the University of Lleida, is lecturer at the official wound care master course at the University of Cantabria, Universitat Rovira I Virgili (Tarragona), the Escola Superior de Ciencies de la Salut Tecnocampus (Universitat Pompeu Fabra) in Mataró, the Campus Docent Sant Joan de Déu in Barcelona, the Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona and the University FinisTerrae in Santiago de Chile.
He has published more than 160 scientific papers, including more than 100 articles on chronic wounds and related scientific topics (15 of them in international journals) as well as more than 50 chapters in books on Wound Care (5 of them in international works) and is the co-editor of the two editions of the first Spanish textbook on Wound Healing.

The period for submitting communications for the Wound Day 2024 opens on Friday, March 15th, and will remain open until April 26th. Please note that submitted works can cover: -Free theme: any topic related to wound care. -Only abstracts written in Catalan will be accepted. -Works can be of two types: a) presentation of a clinical case, or b) original research papers.
