Photopharmacology is an emerging branch of science based on the administration of a photosensitive compound combined with the irradiation of light to provide a high degree of local and temporal control of the activity of a compound, which makes it useful for therapeutic applications and research tool. It is a multidisciplinary field that integrates biology, pharmacology, chemistry, physics, engineering and medicine, which in recent years has flourished and has achieved a critical mass of researchers.

Xavier Rovira from the TR2Lab of the University of Vic – Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC), Amadeu Llebaria from the Institute of Advanced Chemistry of Catalonia (IQAC – CSIC) and Pau Gorostiza from the Institute of Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC), are organizing the second international photopharmacology symposium (ISPP2018 – 2nd International Symposium on Photopharmacology), to be held in Vic ( Barcelona) on November 1 and 2, 2018.

This symposium will bring together world experts in photopharmacology (including the Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2016) to discuss and present their advances, facilitate interaction among collaborators, foster cooperation and open debates to define problems, define solutions, outline strategies and imagine future developments.
